Typical, poem on the spectrum

Outing myself a little here. Just thought I’d share a poem regarding high-functioning autism/Asperger or autism spectrum disorder individuals. This one has resonated with my neurodiverse companions and perhaps will help the kind neurotypicals out there understand a little better.

sculpture
my pose conceals the effort
to display
typical eyes find each other
i pose
there is strength in stillness
but also exhaustion
inside breaking in shards
cut, i bleed away
sure i wasn’t even there
i smile
you’ve said something i can’t remember
voice was too loud
as was your movement
i say sorry
but that’s for you
there’s meaning to sorry
i’m just overwhelmed
and that’s louder
than your feelings
